Controlled rock excavation is underway. Expect slow traffic and up to one-hour road closures between 7:30 PM and 8:30 PM.

Truck traffic in Gallatin Canyon is limited to local deliveries only. Through loads must use Hwy 287.

Local delivery loads over 10.5 ft wide require permits and flaggers at the West Fork Bridge

Wide loads, permitted to make local deliveries, should be moved through the construction area between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM.

Gallatin River - Gallatin Canyon
Highway - 191 Gallatin Canyon Safety Improvements

Montana Department of Transportation is making improvements to Highway 191 through Gallatin Canyon in order to enhance public safety. The projects include adding turn lanes for Highway 64 going to Big Sky, slope flattening, widening of shoulders, improving clear zones, improving site distance, installing new and upgraded guardrails, and replacing two bridges. Construction will begin in June, 2008 and continue into 2009.

$12 million with funding support by the Federal Highway Administration
